Appalachian Power, along with the Virginia Society of Ornithology and Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park, funded an osprey nesting platform back in 2004. Today, an osprey nest and three eggs rest on top of the platform, located inside Smith Mountain Lake State Park. The platform has been equipped with a webcam allowing all to see the nest and eggs, which are expected to hatch around Memorial Day.
